giving them money? In the long-term it would be bad to allow foreign investors to take control of any of these companies, but at the same time it doesn't make sense to simply bail them out and hope that they turn things around. These companies have been run poorly for years, ignoring blatant signs that they need to change their products (signs that companies like Toyota understood) and now they are in danger of going bankrupt, a situation that would deprive thousands of Americans of jobs and further hurt our economy. If the government bails them out would there be any chance of sharing in whatever future profits (if any) there might be? Giving billions of dollars to poorly-run companies seems like a pretty dumb decision if there is no chance of reward. Would the US government expect any type of repayment (with or without interest) for bailing out the "Big Three"?

Given their current share price (Ford and GM), and what Chrysler is worth, the federal government could buy all three of them lock, stock and barrel for LESS than $25 billion.

Chapter 11 Bankruptcy is what they need, not a bail out.

Why should taxpayers money be used for the benefit of executives who run their own companies into the ground, while receiving multimillion-dollar salaries and flying around in private jets?

If they haven't learned to economize, starting at the top, and haven't learned to build cars that people want to actually buy, then they are beyond hope or redemption.

How about the oil companies bailing them out instead, as they've done so much to make the oil business billions of dollars?

Rewarding incompetence and wasteful execs is a stupid idea at best.

But our government wants to keep the fatcats in their mansions, with their multimillion-dollar salaries, bonuses and perks, at the expense of the American taxpayers.

That's what the problem is with this country.

Politicians rewarding their cronies, and sticking the taxpayers with the bills.

If a company that's failing can afford to pay the ones who have ruined that company millions of dollars, they don't need OUR money!!!!
