could sperm affect a pregnancy test?

Pregnancy tests work by detecting hormones released by the woman after conception and implantation of the embryo had taken place - 3 hours after sex isn't long enough for that to happen, it takes days.

Pregnancy tests work best around the time your period would be due.

my husband and i has sex then 3 hours later i took a pregnancy test. the test came up positive, could sperm make that a positive..... i have been taking test for a week or so because i thought i might be pregnant and my last test was on the 10th and it was a negative! so is the positive right?
oh and my last period was may 14th. also is cramping normal at this time?

A positive test wouldn't show up after just three hours.

It may be a false positive, these are rare but do happen (I had three caused by a number of cysts on my ovaries).

Either way, if in a few weeks it still says positive then speak to your doctor, they will send you for a scan to determine if you are pregnant or if there are any underlying problems.

Hope it works out for the best for you.

pregnancy tests check the hormones in your urine. since semen is not a hormone it wouldn't cause the test to read as positive. However, if it is positive you're probably pregnant from the last time you had sex, since it can take up to a week for an egg to get fertilized.
