Could my friend go to jail for this?

So my best friend, she was friends with another girl, and that girl was messing around with like the love of her life pretty much. Sooo my friend now wants to get another girl and pretty much beat the shit out of her.
My friend is 17 and that other girl is 15. Could she go to jail for this? Like what is the whole thing with fighting? Could it go on her record and stuff? Tell me about this...
my friend wants to be a nurse could this screw it up for her???
 
It is not called fighting - the legal term is Assault. Could be VERY serious depending on the severity: Assault causing bodily harm, Assault with a weapon etc.

I suggest she find another way to resolve her problem with this girl. And yes, if the girl is injured or presses charges there will be a record.
