Could my doctor have been wrong?

URGENT:confused::(

I have had weird earaches for almost a year. First they are runny, then when I clean them they dry out and crust forms. The crust is hard to remove and my ears usually bleed. Then, once they heal, the process starts over and becomes runny/dry/hardened/scabby/bloody all over again.

I saw a doctor a month or two ago about it. He said there was nothing wrong with them except a little red and sore. He never prescribed anything for it. Two times since then I have had so much wax in my ears that I wake up deaf in one ear depending on which side I slept on. The first time this happened I was deaf for a day and a half until the drops and the aspirator helped suck it out of me.

The second time started yesterday. I had too much wax, I cleaned my ears, it bled a little because of the dry skin around the inside of my ear. Since then my ear feels swollen and I can't hear well out of it. I didn't put the Q-tip in too far or anything, so it's not that. All day long it has been throbbing and hurts really bad inside. My ear is warm to the touch on the outside so much that it feels like its on fire. I took as much pain reliever as the bottle said I could take in 24 hours and I'm still in so much pain. Noise and moving my head makes it throb more in a couple spots.

I knew my ears were bad and the doctor didn't do anything. I can't go back because I don't have medical coverage and it would be aweful to go back just so he could say there's nothing wrong with it again. It was a free clinic and I sat there for hours with screaming babies and really poor people. I don't know if the pain is just from it being swollen and a little dry and scabbed, but it is severe. I just don't know what is worse- going back or dealing with my ear being this bad.

Was the doctor wrong? Is it a drainage/blockage problem like I suspected in the first place? Or can it just be very sore, red, and painful sometimes?

Yes it sounds like the doctor was wrong...I am sorry that you can't afford to go see a ear/nose and throat doctor. Perhaps instead of the free clinic you can go to a hospital ER ...if it is a public hospital they have to take anyone that needs help. Or go back to the free clinic and ask if you might see a different doctor if there is one. It might of been that when you went there wasn't anything really wrong but it sounds like things have changed. Since you are in so much pain I would just go to an ER. Good luck.

Thank you for responding. I already went to the hospital yesterday because I just couldn't stand the stabbing pain in my ear. The doctor I saw before was indeed wrong. I went to the hospital, saw a social services worker that will make a recommendation to medicaid for me, I have plans to see an Ear/nose/throat doctor, and got my prescrips from the pharmacy. It was all great except the lady at the pharmacy refused to find the generic brand for one of my prescrips. My fiance forked over $180 for the name brand stuff. I am still in unbareable pain, but it should die down soon enough once the swelling goes down. But thank you so much for your comment. :)

I had a cat scan of my kidneys, (my dr. was looking at my adrenal gland in order to determine the cause of my high blood pressure), they now ordered a triple phase liver scan. What could they be looking for? My Dr. is not telling me much.

No, I don't have any tubes in my ears. They said I have an external ear infection which is basically swimmer's ear. Somehow moisture got in there and caused a lot of bacteria and infection. Thanks for asking though.
