Antithesis

First, I should preface this question by saying that I don't usually meditate. I've never been religious and I am spiritual only in a pantheist sense. I consider myself both atheist and open minded.
Over the years I've noticed that I've developed a ridiculously short attention span. It is hard to focus on difficult tasks even if I really love them, and whenever I try to relax it feels like my head is full of quick, meaningless thoughts. Would meditation help with this, and if so, do you have any tips?
