could it be possible to bring the cinema onto the small screen?

i know you all think its not worth it because the cinema is better, but does anyone think it be cool have to have the cinema on the small screen?. so we dont have to line up for those tickets and just pay for the films on the small screen?. i think it be kinda cool.

I presume you're thinking of a way where you can see brand new cinema releases in your home when they go on general release. Theoretically it would be easy to do - it would simply need a studio or distributor to tie up a deal with a ppv company. Personally though I'm not sure there would be a mass market for it. If a film came out that you wanted to see immediately (say within a couple weeks of release), surely you'd want to see it on as advanced technology as you could do, i.e. massive screen, THX or whatever, multi-speaker surround etc. If you aren't that bothered about seeing it immediately, then you'd just wait three months and rent it on dvd same as you do now. Put it this way - would anyone forego the cinema 'experience' of seeing blockbuster FX films such as Star Wars, The Matrix, Spiderman etc, for a 24" tv, stereo (as opposed to digital surround) sound one?

Very bad idea.

There's enough films and allsorts out there to keep people busy, and if you can't be bothered to go to the cinema, you can wait for the dvd/Sky Box Office release.

It would be very bad for cinemas, obviously, and it would ruin the cinema experience for people.

Or what gashead said, that I only read while writing this.

We already have cinema on the small screen. Just after the big cinemas show them on a massive screen with the best sound quality, and social experience.

we are much further behind in technology for watching Films at home than I expected us to be 5 years ago.

I watch DVD's on a mac and the colour, resolution, detail is stunning. By now I would have expected streaming new films onto Apple Mac digital flat screens (or similar) would be the norm - With the poor quality of affordable TV Widescreens I don't think Cinema at home is worth it yet.

Not to be picky, but the resolution would not be any higher on your TV than on your computer....

2 Years time...
Plasma's will be down to sub

Erm i may be a little wrong here but don't we have this already? Chaneel 5and BBC show films that you can watch on your TV. Also I often watch films on my VCR on the...you guessed it TV. In the next year or two I am even considering buying a DVD player when they become a little more affordable and there are more films to watch on them too. So I think the future is here right now.

Cinema on the small screen? Oxymoron, innit.

If a film is shot to be shown on a big screen it looks wrong on a small screen. The techniques involved - writing, directing, acting, composition - are different. And the sound is mixed to fill a large space at levels which shouldn't be attempted by anyone who wants to stay frienRAB with their neighbours.

It's nice to be able to see films on TV, to catch up on ones you've missed and see old favourites again. But they don't look, or sound, they way they were meant to.

You haven't really seen a film until you've seen it at the cinema.

ERM Just a little wrong,of course there are films on bbc and other channels  and really you can watch films on a vcr i didn't know this, does anyone else?
this is about brand new cinema releases to watch on your home tv.
Dvd players are from

Digital surround sound has been available on DVD for quite a while now. There are even television sets which are quite a bit larger than 24"!
Just turn out all the lights, get someone to sit in front of you with their head blocking your view, someone sat behind to eat some snack noisily and throw popcorn over you occasionally whilst laughing in all the wrong places. You could almost be there. ;)

I'm with Diablo on this one !!!

Multiplexes have a lot to answer for in my eyes.

The so-called pro's of going to the cinema, and the reality.............

Enjoy a night out at the cinema watching the latest releases, in comfort on a state of the art big screen with sound just as the director intended.

The reality...............

A print that's been flogged to death already, with artefacts and dust specks. A sound system that's really really loud so that explosions go BOOM, but with hardly any clarity so that when there's any important dialogue that has any meaning to the story (it's true.....some films still do have a story!) you struggle to make it out. A sounRABtage set up for the 2 rows of 5 people sat in the dead centre of the cinema, for the rest of us plebs, the term UNLUCKY springs to mind, and as for the poor suckers who are right down the front, earplugs to prevent deafness as the centre channel tries to rip your head off and a free neck massage to rectify the 1 1/2 to 4 hours of stargazing that they've had to endure.

As for comfort, a seat that factory hens and veal calves would find claustrophobic with arm rests that are guaranteed to start the game we all know and love as elbow tennis. Leg room that seems to have been determined almost to the nth degree to make sure that your knees are constantly in contact with the seat in front.

The slurping sound as people try to extract the very last drop of flavoured sugar syrup out of their
