I have been wanting to fix up my 99 dodge neon. It's not in the greatest shape, so I'm starting to replace parts here and there.

I was wondering, could I swap out the original engine with another one? If so, which one(s) work best with this car (99 dodge neon sport)?

Also, will replacing the engine possibly help the fuel mileage?

I'm quite new at this, and don't worry I'll seek help from professionals, I just want to get a basic idea of what I could possibly get out of this car.

thank you!

Your options are to get the engine that's in your vehicle rebuild by sending it out to a machine shop or getting another engine from a 1999 neon from a wrecker.

Sending out the engine to get rebuilt for a neon will be more expensive than getting one from a yard due to the amount of neons out there but you have to rely on the yards word as to the amount of kilometers on the engine and the compresion ratio.
