Could I go to jail for this?

The other day I found a new quarter I had never seen before. Long story short I drilled a hole in it, put a chain through it, and turned it into a neckalce. Friends at school were kinda kidding with me about how it's against the law but when one of my teachers mentioned it I kinda got to wondering.

Theoretically, if I got pulled over by a cop and he saw the quarted with a hole through it, what's the worst I could face legally? Is it even against the law?
 
If they aren't going to prosecute the congress or president 0bama for destroying the US Dollar, why would they bother with you damaging a quarter?
 
yes it is illegal to destroy any sory of money, but i dont think you would get punished at all for just drilling a hole in a quarter
