Could I get sick by riding my bike next to a busy street?

Could I get sick by inhaling all of those gaseous fumes from the passing cars? I ride my bike for exercise along a busy street every day and I was just wondering about this.
 
No you won't, unless you ride behind a street sweeper. I ride my bike 25 miles a day between Brooklyn and Queens, and my lungs feel best when I'm out on my bike. I've had a cold for the past week, and the only time I didn't sneeze or sniffle was when I was flying down the road at 25 mph :)
