Could I buy a pay & go iPhone and then put my own contract sim in it?

If i bought a pay and go iphone on o2 and put my own o2 sim card into it, would it work correctly?
If so would there be any unexpected extra charges that go with using the iphone?
 
Yes, your at&t sim will work in any go phone properly, however you may need to adjust your service features for the iphone to work properly because it functions differently than just a basic cell phone.
 
i would think you can, but unless you have an unlimited internet allowance etc, you won't be able to use your iphone to it's full potential.

i have a similar problem with my blackberry, bought it second-hand and the maps won't work on it despite the fact my contract give me a similar maps enabled phone (which got stolen)

perhaps, if you tell o2, they might be able to make sure it all works :)
