Could Bush have prevented the whole financial crisis?

How many think he could have prevented the whole thing if he wasn't in the "coasting out" of office mentality? Or...maybe if he raised the interest rate on loans sooner? Or...maybe promoted business or infastructure?

What's everyone's opinion?
Didn't Bush approve and take part in this greed? How about gov. take breaks to companies out to the country?...for one example.

he probably should have been briefed more often on what the Federal Reserve was doing. as much as Americans rely on credit, it may not have been completely avoidable, but it shouldn't have been so unexpected that it crippled the economy like it has.

No.....He couldn't have. Dems..... you did alot of damage. Too much.

Was it really worth it?

No, the crisis started when Pelosi took over congress in 2006. George Soros, Obamas puppetier kept it rolling and made a large amount of money from the crisis.

No it started before he was in office, and it seems no one really picked up on the whole housing collapse until it was to late, Barney Frank and his guy had a lot to do with keeping that under wraps ! All of those easy loans that Clinton wanted for people just took time to blow up and when they did, they all went !

who knows? I really didn't like him, but the point is moot about now.

and for Ron T: CARTER?? He was president 30 years ago!

If the Bush administration had not sponsored the last stage of deregulation which allowed the trading of all those crazy derivatives early on much of what we're seeing would never have happened.

Could Bush stop Corporation greed? The President is the Chief Commander of the Military and gives his opinion to Congress.....he is NOT a Dictator. Did Obama seriously inherit these problems? No, he was a U.S. Senator, and he suspected like all the other Senators of what might come and like the other Senators he did nothing. Obama got big bucks donated to his campaign from the same guys who's greed caused the Problems Obama faces today.

Doubtful.

Much of our current financial mess can be traced back to virtually unlimited mortgage lending practices back in the 90s -- practices that were pushed on lenders by the Clinton Administration in the name of "fairness" and "helping the less fortunate."

Under pressure from the Clinton regime, mortgage lenders were giving mortgages to people who clearly did not financially qualify for them.

Now we are reaping the terrible results of this.
.

Oh he probably could have prevented this crisis if he'd had
more time in office. But, time ran out, and Obama took off
with his inexperienced mind and now we have chaos in
America. We may never recover now.

No he couldn't have stopped it.

There were too many greedy people in the country to stop the momentum of overextending themselves with unreasonable loans. and greedy people giving out the bad loans thinking they'd be able to get rich in a few years when the interest rates went up on those interest only loans.

Yes, he could've done more, but Clinton could've done less:

Last paragraph:

In 1995, President Bill Clinton's HUD agreed to let Fannie and Freddie get affordable-housing credit for buying subprime securities that included loans to low-income borrowers. The idea was that subprime lending benefited many borrowers who did not qualify for conventional loans. HUD expected that Freddie and Fannie would impose their high lending standards on subprime lenders.
