I have recently been given the opportunity to photograph some of the lads I box with and am getting some good results but I do need to see improvement. The gym I am photographing is has windows and strip lights, the lighting is not fantastic but I feel I could use this to my advantage. Could somebody offer me advice on the kind of lens I need to use and camera settings. I have tried the sports function and they are coming out blurred, I have tried the manual settings gradually increasing exposure times to improve the lighting.

Also, I am hoping to photograph a Boxing show shortly which will have much better lighting, could anybody offer me any advice on that? Im assuming with the bright lights a nice quick exposure time will work but I want to get the best results I can 1st time so they get me back.

Any advice on lens's, exposures and anything else would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.....
I have a Canos EOS450d with 18-55mm lens and 70-300mm F/4-5.6 lens. I am getting a 50mm lens and I do have access to a 55-250mm f/4-5.6

What's your gear so far?

You ask about lenses, so I assume you have a DSLR.

You need a fast lens. f/2.8 or below. The 70-200mm f/2.8 IS/VR is extremely useful and a valuable asset; it is worth investing in.

Use 1/50's and above. Ideally, 1/100+.

Boost your ISO if you ahve to.
