Could any please help me with debating club?

I just joined a debate club here in high school and I don't know squat! I mean, I know the basic forms of debate what goes on, flowing etc. But I have no idea what to do for this tournament I'm heading to. My teacher said to sign up because it would help me learn how debate works. But I don't know what I am supposed to do! Am I supposed to right a speech on my topic or something? Any help is appreciated. My topic is: "Resolved: Public high school students in the United States ought not be required to pass standardized exit exams to graduate."
 
OOH! haha I am going to join a debate team at my hs too! I really don't know much either lol but I would just ask your teacher or someone who has been in the club a few years, and ask them for advice! Good Luck :)
