cough

My daughter age 31 has had a cough for 5 weeks without any improvement seen. She was on a dose of amoxicillion for 10 days which did nothing to ease her cough. She now has just had a chest x-ray which shows clear lungs. The doctor was basically no help saying you should be better now, your cough should be gone. She has lots of mucus that she is coughing up, had been clear until a few days ago and now it is yellow. Otherwise she feels fine but is just tired of coughing, any suggestions?

A chronic productive cough could be caused by smoking, sinusitis w/postnasal drip, reflux/heartburn or ACE inhibitors (blood pressure med), but yellow mucus sound like chronic bronchitis to me. Bronchitis is viral, antibiotics don't work on it.
