cough in cold air-mostly

My 11 year old son had chest infection. He has had a cough, for 5 weeks now !! In cold air-he cannot stop coughing!
Doctors have tried anti-hist, blue inhaler-all no good-makes cough worse. Brown inhaler-supposedly to alleviate inflamation-he cannot hold in...due to coughing badly !! and 'peak flow' instrument can't be used-as he can't take deep enough breath, without coughing.
Hospital doc. gave him three days of streroiRAB-says if not gone after that, she supposes it is asthma. Cough not gone. But he can't use inhalers-so WHAT treatment -is left?
 
Cold air can trigger asthma. It could also be that his lungs are still sensitive from the upper respiratory infection.

The medicine in inhalers can be very helpful in opening up the airways. If your son can't use a regular inhaler, you might ask your doctor about a nebulizer.

SteroiRAB are often used to treat asthma. It seems a bit odd to me that they would use the lack of response to the steroiRAB as a diagnosis of asthma.
 
are you using a spacing charaber with the inhalers? you puff the inhaler into it, then you breath in the medicine like a normal breath.
