couch bugs?

Hi, my boyfriend and I moved into our apartment about a week ago, and ever since the 2nd or so day I have been getting a lot of bug bites. Some look like mosquito bites and are large, and others are fairly small. I noticed that I have been getting them whenever I sit on our couch, but we have examined it and haven't seen evidence of any mites or bugs. I have researched itch mites but I do not think that they are the cause, due to the fact that I am not getting bitten when I am not sitting on the couch and my boyfriend hasn't gotten any bites (however he doesn't lay on the couch like I do and when he does he has pants and longsleeve shirts on, whereas I have shorts and a tanktop). The bites are bothersome because they are so itchy and they keep appearing even though we washed the cover to our couch. any suggestions as to what it is?
 
You'll have to do some detective work to figure it out.

Some questions I have...
Is the room carpeted?
Was it steam-cleaned and/or fumigated before you moved in?
Did the previous renters have pets?
My thoughts turn to maybe fleas. Whatever it is, I feel sure it was there before you got there.
 
Get rid of that couch PRONTO immediately before the bugs infest your home. The price of a new couch will be a bargain compared to an exterminator. Hope, hope, hope and pray that its not bed bugs. They are the worst to get rid of and are almost always unseen.
 
Thanks for your input Auntie Leela...i have inspected our bed and didnt find anything, as well as our couch and rug, so i have no idea where the little suckers could be
 
You may not see the bugs but that does not mean they are not there. I had the same problem here at work. I would be scratching my legs till they bled some days. Went to my dermatologist and he told me they were flea bites. Turns out my office was infested with paper fleas. There are sticky pads that bug killers put down and a few hours later look at them and you will probably see the pad full of very little fleas.

You need to get rid of the couch and bomb (device that sprays a cloud of bug killer throught the apartment) apartment. Make sure that you securely cover everything in the apartment. Food, toothbrush, hairbrushes, combs, clothes...) Once the chemicals clear the apartment, than clean everything. Hopefully, you will get rid of the fleas.

I certainly would have a talk with the landlord and inquire who the previous occupants were and what measures the landlord took to clean the apartment before you moved in.

Hi Midwest...the apartment is carpeted, and my boyfriends mom is a nurse and suggested fleas also but we have searched our butts off and haven't found any. My only thought on fleas would be that I was outside in my bathing suit about a week ago and could have picked them up there...but wouldn't i feel them and see them jumping around?
