Cost of rebuilding Toyota engine?

Rebuild is about 3,000. Getting another motor is about the same price. Rebuilding the engine is about 900 dollars labor. I have been quoted this same thing from 3 different mechanics in the past few days.
 
What would the approximate cost be of rebuilding a a mid 80's toyota v6 engine be? Just approximate, labor costs and parts. Ive found rebuild kits on the internet for around $300, but are those just crap. Labors what I'm worried about the most on though.
Getting another motor is not an option, I need this one rebuilt.
