cost of first service after break in--500miles+

Next week I will be taking my c50 back to the dealer for its first service as it will have about 750 miles on it. I am wondering what other people pay for this? I am not experiencing any problems so it should just be the normal stuff. I guess there is some question as to how necessary the valve inspection is. Should I say, "don't take the added time to look at valves"? Just wondering how much others pay for their first service. I expect it won't be cheap, but this is a rural area, so it might not be as much as a large city.
 
I paid Cad$ 109 [labour] + Cad$ 56 [parts] + taxes for the first service. The shop owner was confident that valve checks were not needed but recommended for 4000 km service.

Thanks Elvis. Last time I heard, the US dollar was about the same as Canadian, and what you paid is about what I am expecting. Also you confirmed my understanding that the valve adjustment will not be needed. It runs and sounds fine so I will insist that they don't do it.
Unless someone has a differing opinion, I'll consider this question answered.
 
I paid around $180 for my first service. For the first service there was the oil change and final gear oil change and basic inspection of bolts, steering, brakes and hoses, along with the valve adjustments.

There are a few threads (in the M50 forum anyways) about first services and if valve adjustments are necessary etc.

To summarize:

Some say do it, most important service
Some say not necessary
Some say do the oil change and valve adjustments yourself

So it's up to you on what you are comfortable with. :bluethum:
 
mine was 140 and i waas told that dont touch the valve's till 10,000 15,000

iam due for the 5000 mile workup but the dealer by me is booked solid till the end of may
 
What exactly are they going to adjust on a hydraulic lifter and what would they find on a set of C-90 valves? This is an easy bike to service.
 
So the 5000 mile service is basically an oil change...
Maybe DIY? Use the $100 you save from the stealership to buy a lift.
I was quoted $350 for the first service and bought a manual. The writing was clearly on the wall at that point.
 
I am the person who started this thread. I had the first service done. Total cost: 55 dollars. Basically all they did was oil & filter change plus change the final gear oil. And of course a general inspection of the bike. They said it was way to early to inspect the valves, despite it being recommended by Suzuki. They suggested I have it done at about 4,000 miles. I would not suggest doing the first service yourself, it is best to keep the warranty valid. After the warranty expires, doing it yourself is fine.
 
Agreed. I do all my own maintenance, and a few repairs. It is my understanding that the Suzuki warranty isn't worth much anyway (it's always your fault . . . bent fork? you shift wrong. burnt valve? you redlined it one too many times. etc., etc.), but there is a court decision out there somewhere that basically says you can't sell something to someone and turn around and dictate they pay your price for the maintenance required to keep the warranty valid. :)
 
I checked a dozen websites for the C-90 and found this quote every time....

"Hydraulic valve lash adjusters eliminate valve adjustment maintenance and ensure quiet engine operation"

This one of the reasons I picked the C90. I service my own unit. Oil, O Filter, Air filter, Pumpkin oil, Inspect breaks, cables and tightness. Thats about it. And with the money saved I can change the Valvolene (MC oil 3.50 a quart) spring and fall with oil filter at 5k. I expect this rig to go 100k +.

Wahoo Suzuki! This is a great MC to own.
 
Does this apply to the c/50 as well? I've done oil changes and final drive myself.Have not touched the valves.6400 miles.

What I don't understand is if the bike is under warranty why are they charging for parts? In Oklahoma, Oklahoma Honda/Suzuki does the first service for 225.00 and Performance Cycles of OKC will charge 275.00. At those prices they should include parts if necessary. Sad part is that you really don't know if they adjust the valves or not. My 600 mile is just around the corner, I have 580 on my bike and am not looking forwardd to the rip off they are going to throw at me. Worse still, the bike is under warranty, all parts should be covered.
 
It's not "warranty work" JStaz, it's "maintenance work." Thus, you'll be required to pay for "disposables" such as fluids, filter, etc. You'll also (as always) be required to pay for labor.
 
Just had my 2008 C50T 600 mile service done this past Saturday the 31st of May. Already changed my oil myself at 475 miles......by the time I rode to the dealer, it had about 700 miles on the bike.

They adjusted my clutch cable, changed rear diff. fluid, inspect and tighten bolts (I do that myself), pull and inspect plugs..that's it...cost me $100.00. They didn't check my valves.

I picked up some more oil and a new filter so I can change it myself.....

Oh...I almost forgot......they also were nice enough to put a scuff mark on my side cover for free!!! %%%%%s!!! I'll never go back to the numbskull that's too stupid to watch my paint job....
