I have a family plan with 2 phone lines on it with t-mobile. I have 8 months left on the contract, however I have been with t-mobile for 5 years now. As of late, I am very unsatisfied with the phones/pricing etc and want to switch carriers. How much would it cost me to end my contract early? Would they take into matters that I have been a customer for 5 years?

No, being a customer for 5 years wouldn't really matter, considering you won't be one after you leave.
T-Mo pro-rates the ETF fees, so they will not be as high as you might expect. With only 8 months left (on I assume a 2 year contract) it should be less than half of whatever the ETF fee was when you signed up. If it was $150 per phone at that time, I would think that you would be looking at a grand total for both lines to terminate early of around $100 to $125
Unless you are going pre-paid, I don't think you are really going to find any better bargains as far as cost is concerned...T-Mo is very aggressive in it's pricing compared to all the other major carriers. The only other company who comes close is Sprint which I just left a month ago after a terrible customer support experience - We're talking blatantly lied to, file complaint with the Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection kind of bad customer service. The kind of lies where when I indicated i had a recording of the phone conversation of the promises made, there was a VERY long pause, then I was asked if I informed the person I talked to before that i was recording the conversation, and when I said my state didn't legally require me to make that notification, there was another longer pause... Do not even THINK of getting involved with Sprint - Remember, you've been warned.
On the other hand, if you have been a TMo customer for 5 years, and call to check on the exact costs of your ETF's, they might get customer retentions on the line with you to try to offer up some freebies to keep you as a customer. New phones, a few free months, etc. Take the offers or leave, but be sure you have checked out our options ahead of time, so that you will know whether staying with TMo for the freebies or leaving for greener pastures is best for you.
