Corrupt SD Card

My SD card just went corrupt today. It was an 8GB one. Since I am rooted, all of my apps were on there. Is there any way that I can reformat my SD card, and if so, how? I have tried the regular way (right click, format, but it keeps failing). Do I want to do a FAT or NTFS since I'm rooted? Please help!

It's almost certainly broken, sorry.

This is one of the biggest problems with Apps (also cache) to SD, and almost certainly the reason why Google haven't implemented it, despite it being something you can pretty much do with a symlink (takes about 5 seconds to enter the command in the shell).

Flash memory has a finite (i.e. limited) number of erase-write cycles before they break. Typically around 1,000,000 for a given sector (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory). As apps (and cache) can write thousands of times a second to their app space (or cache) this can reduce the life of an SD card to weeks in extreme cases. When they break, they break, and there's nothing you can do to get it working again. Your only solution is to buy a new SD card, and restore a backup of your apps, or install them all again manually.

Oh, and one more question. I've got a couple 1GB cards lying around. I know the data is gone from the 8GB, but how would I go about getting my 1GB formatted to run Apps2SD while I wait for my new 8GB in the mail?

Let me rephrase the question. Since my phone was rooted and everything stored on the 8GB microSD card (now corrupt), how do I go about getting my apps back and onto a 1GB microSD card (while I wait for a new 8GB one)? I don't have any apps except the generic ones on my phone right now, which means that I don't have the Android Market, Google Maps, etc.

I don't have much experience with this. I think if you're running Cyanogen's ROM you just put it in, boot into recovery, and there's an option on there, but that's a guess from memory. There are a ton of people on here who know a lot more about this than me though.

If you are using the amon ra recovery, there is an option to partition your card. I know that simms used the 1gb card with apps2sd for a while. As to getting all your apps back, the paid apps will still be there in the market, you may have to uninstall them and reinstall them. The other apps, you are just going to have to try and remember what you had. For future reference I back my sd up to my desktop atleast once a week just in case something like that happens.

Alright, I'll give it a try. I too wrote down my apps, but I don't install new apps all that often, so my list should be up to date. Thanks! And what would be a good partition for a 2GB? (I just found it lying in a drawer, go figure)

since all the data from your 8gb is gone, you dont go about getting your apps back i would reflash cyanogenmod plus the add-on to get your market and maps back. problem is your apps will show up as installed but will not work. if you try to uninstall them, the option will be grayed out.you will have to find the .apks somewhere to reinstall or uninstall the apps
