Corel Paint Pro X2 vs Photoshop Elements 8?

I need advise from USERS of these editing programs- I am an absolute BEGINNER and want to start learning which is the best to START WITH?

I vote for Elements.
Both programs are very good, but you will find more "goodies" for Elements (plug ins, tutorials, etc).

Also, there is a chance that eventually you'll outgrow Elements and you'll want to move onto the "real" thing - Photoshop. If you have Elements, you're already more familiar with the way Adobe does things, so the change over won't be quite as big.

I vote Corel if you are an absolute beginner with editing programmes. When I was an absolute beginner, I couldn't figure out how to work with Adobe so I started working with Corel.

There aren't many who work with Corel which is a downer if you need a tutorial. But Corel is an excellent tool for beginners. It'll help you immensely if you want to eventually work with Adobe. Most people will say Adobe because it is more field accepted. IMO opinion it is more professionally based than Corel. I do use Adobe now as a supplement especially if I need to edit the exposure of an image which Corel can't do, I prefer Corel 99% of the time.

However X2 won't work with RAW images so you will need to have X2 Ultimate if you plan on using RAW

Claire B is correct. PSP X2 is a good program to start with. It's not as complicated/sophisticated as Elements but has more tools/effects. Also, PSP X2 has a wonderful learning tool, the Learning Center, which gives step by step instructions for those things most beginners want to do. PSP X2's Help section is the best there is. If you have any questions about the program, its tools or how to do something, it's in the Help section. Elements' Help section is worthless. There are instructions for using PSP X2 online.

And after a time, you'll know where all the good PSP tutorial sites are. Here are a couple of them.
