I had my first cortisone shot/epidural today. I have a buldge in my l4/l5 which has caused a pinched nerve/permanent nurabness in leg and foot. I have had the pain for almost 20 years with the last five getting worse. I was told to strengthen my core by doing excersizes that do not put strain my lower back. Does anyone know of any off the top of your head?

Also, for those wondering, I was ready for massave pain from the shot and was pleasently surprised it wasnt bad at all.

You could look into Egoscue exercises. Pete Egoscue's book Pain Free has extensive pictures and detailed explanations. Good stuff!

Building strong core muscles will help you with your posture and will hlelp protect your back. Doing crunches doessn't build core muscles. Once your figure out how to do them, you will be surprised how much they can help support your back...and how easy they are to do.

They had me doing core exercise at PT because they said I had a lurabar strain. It was found I had 2 bulging disc that from the exercise's turned into 2 ruptured disc. Had one epidural shot and they hit nerve and my toe started twitching really bad own it's own. I have had l4-l5 fusion and still has not stopped toe from twitching! Make sure they use an xray machine when doing your shots. They didn't do it on mine and now I'm paying for their mistake!! Ask questions and do your research!! Good luck!

Yes, they did use the xray machine the whole step of the way. Sorry about the turnout of yours.

I don't know about bulging discs but after my fusion surgery my pain management doctor recommended "Pilates for inflexible people". Whatever you choose, good luck!
