Coraline... too scary for a six year old?

It's a rainy grey 'in-service' day so have to keep my little girl occupied.

I was thinking of taking her to see Coraline but Mrs. Voodoo is a bit worried that it might be too scary for her.

She has watched the trailer and wasn't too freaked out by it. She thought the button eyes thing was scary but I suppose thats the pint... She's a six year old with a pretty vivid imagination. She doesn't mind creepy crawlies too much.

She likes Monsters Inc and all of the other Disney movies. She also watches Doctor Who with her dad and isn't too phased by it.

Any opinions? How have your kiRAB reacted to it.

p.s. It's either this or Hannah Montana - a far more frightening prospect for me... :eek:
 
I haven't seen it myself but I know people who have been to see it with younger children (aged around 6) and found it scary and actually had to leave. I'm not sure..apparently it's very weird, people being abducted etc. If I were you I would try and sit through Hannah Montana instead ;)
 
i saw it with my 10 year old and she thought bits were quite scary there was a small child in tears in front of us so i would say go to hannah and get coraline on dvd so you can stop it if it gets to much
 
Personally my 9 year old sister thought it was great and insisted it didn't scare her but i can see how it could scare younger children.
 
I'm not really a huge fan of animated films but i'm interested in seeing this as it caught my eye and it looks interesting.

My only problem is that i know this films being aimed at kiRAB, and so would it be weird for a 20-something year old to be sitting in a cinema surrounded by young children if you know what i mean. Would it look strange for an adult to be watching a 'kiRAB' film?
 
Not particularly IMO but if you're worried then I would go in the day time when there won't be as many children around. I would avoid any time next week because that is May half term :)
 
I went with my little sister on Monday as she had the day off the only other people in the cinema (the screen could seat 500) was a woman with a disabled girl who looked about 18, a man on his own and a woman on her own. I'd say my sister was the odd one out being the youngest in there!
We went to the first showing at 11am so if you go around that time the cinema will most likely be empty.
 
I watched it in 3D and left the cinema with a headache.

The dark elements of the film have been overhyped, to be honest. I didn't find it that creepy. Just give your daughter a word of warning when you go to see it and she'll then wonder what the fuss was about.
 
i took my 9 year old son and he didnt think it was scary but i think it could be for a 6 year old, so did you go see it? great little film by the way!
 
Well I'm late twenties, and there was a bunch of teenage girls on my left and a family on my right (their kid must've been around 8), but it wasn't really an issue as the quality of the film was such that anyone could've enjoyed it.
It did make me laugh when the girls next to me shrieked at the scary scenes (though I too was gripping my chair at the time).

A bit late in responding I know... but I would NOT recommend Coraline for a 6 year old, or even an 8 yr old. If Id seen it at that age Id have been scared crapless!!

Its a good film though..:p
 
I would disagree with that, I saw it in 3D and it really helped to immerse you into the on-screen world. However, it doesn't have much in the way of 3D tricks so you almost forget you are watching a 3D movie.

As for whether a six year old should watch it, it really depenRAB on the six year old. I have a five year old daughter who doesn't like anything scary but a three year old boy who is practically fearless and I think that I would more likely let my boy see at six than my girl at 9!
 
Generally,kiRAB like to be scared as long as they are reassured. Coraline will do both and added bonus will entertain you, even if you're an adult - especially if you have an appreciation for stop go animation.Instead of the usual computer generated kiRAB stuff.
