Word. There are still plenty of people who think every CG animated film is made by Pixar. All it takes is for one studio or filmmaker to do something outstanding with the genre and most people come to automatically associate them with it, even when they had nothing to do with it.

They were showing that film alongside Friday the Thirteenth?
I know Coraline is a little scary, but it is still a kids movie. Friday the Thirteenth is R. Wow!

I saw this in 3D yesterday and it was amazing. I really don't understand parent's judgement though: Half of the audience was 8 and younger. When the credits began to roll, a good 80% were crying and some had left during the film.

Actually, it opened third with $16.3 million

Incidentally, looking at this week's box office, I find it amusing that Coraline had a $16 million opening weekend as opposed to Friday The 13th's $45 million opening a week later, and yet right now Coraline is standing at a $65 million total take as opposed to Friday's $63 million. The tortose and the hare, anyone? :D

I saw the film today, thought it was great, but it was mostly what I was excpecting to see. As for the whole "too scary for young children" I didn't think it was too bad, it got a bit worse by the end but nothing really scary, though I would agree with the "nobody under six years old" part that everyone has been saying, but hey nobody in the theater I was in cried.

I just saw it in 3-D, and it was awesome! Just the right mix of creepy and sweet.
I thought the designs were excellent (I even prefer Coraline to Nightmare Before Christmas, just for those designs).

It takes alot to get me to brave a theater full of kids for an animation. The hand made details along with the 3D added to a story line that already attracted me. The $10 for a ticket has me thinking I'm not going to the other 3D features coming soon. If no one has said yet, keep your glasses on and stay to the end of the credits rather than leave with the kids. It's worthwhile, but I'm not going to say why. I figured it out, maybe you can too. I really feel the very young kids should not have been there. A few had to leave when the scary tension was reaching climax. I loved the darkness in this movie but it could give little kids nightmares.

I saw it today in 3D (had to pay full price, no matinees!). It was definitely not a distraction, and it complemented the film in places. At first I had a little trouble adapting to the effect, but that soon passed. Probably due to trying to wear the 3D "nerd glasses" over my bifocals. :D

Excellent artwork, great animation, and a fine story combine to make a most enjoyable film. The pacing seemed fine, as I never felt that the story dragged. It is a dark tale, but an enjoyable one.

Definitely worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.

Ok well, not one kid was scared through the whole movie in a packed audience. One lady, one, jumped when the hands clasped closed on Coraline.

That aside, awesome movie. Very beautiful.

Yeah, when the cat started speaking, I was thinking "Goliath!" :D

Anyways, wonderful, gorgeously-visualized movie. Here's hoping the Oscars will remember back to this film for their 2009 Best Animated Feature nominees.

Fantastic film. The stop motion was great, the 3D was amazing, the characters were perfect, the music truly added to the film. Really great movie and I'd be willing to see it again.

And I would classify this as a horror/fantasy film, even if it is a "children's movie." There are some scenes that are really quite creepy and unsettling.
