I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD with an electric cooling fan noise. It sounds like its hitting something and makes the most awful noise.
After some inspection on a cooled off vehicle I manually turned the fan blade and it makes still makes a noise ( but to a much lesser extent) but not in any particular spot. So im guessing its not hitting something.
I then discovered the fan has alot of play in it and that i can wiggle it from side to side give or take abt 1/8 of an inch. With very limited site to the center of the fan I felt around to see if there is a bolt that could be tightened but did not find one. So Im asking, is there a way to tighten this up or has it seen the last of it's days?
At first from the sound of it I thought maybe the fan wasn't catching a groove right but when the fan kicks on it spins normally, just with this awful noise. Can I unplug the fan till I can have it fixed or will having it in it's current condition be just as bad? Temperatures lately have been low to mid 50's during the day, dunno if that helps or not.....Any help deeply appreciated!
