Cool new Astro Boy trailer!

At least Astro Boy is wearing a shirt and pants this time around.

It remains to be seen if this movie will spark a renewed interest in the franchise or if it will be another "quickie" (quickly gone and forgotten) like the 2004 Kids WB revival series.

It's based on the original manga series by Osamu Tezuka, who's regarded in Japan as the "God of Manga". In fact, in the trailer, you can SEE Tezuka (in CGI form); cute of the animators to include him. He's in the scene where Astro is flying down the city street and passes overhead; below him is a little man wearing a beret - that's Tezuka. (Tezuka passed away in 1989.)

Not long ago, Adult Swim ran the original 1960's Astro Boy anime, usually at around 1 in the morning. The series was done on the cheap, and, like a lot of anime, doesn't translate too well sometimes for American audiences, but it was still pretty fun. Especially the theme song. BTW, Tezuka also created scores of other manga, like Kimba the White Lion and Princess Knight. The one manga I liked when I used to read Shojo Beat magazine was the fragment of Princess Knight it ran in one issue. I'd love to read the whole thing, but just TRY to find translated Tezuka comics here in America! Dark Horse comics did reissue Astro Boy comics a few years ago, but they're all out of print; I was able to track down only ONE issue of them, and that was at my library. Well, maybe if this film is a success, the series will be re-released again. I hope so. The Astro boy book I did manage to read rocked out loud. Beautiful lively flowing art and a solid story. Sorry to gush on like this, but I'm a major Tezuka fan. Does it show? :p

this him?

I want this movie to be good, it's as simple as that. of course i also want the last air bender movie to be good but this is different. this is different as there are IMO less things to nitpick about Astro Boy. really my onlu problem is that they castes Nickolas Cage as Mr. Tenma. thats not really a choice I would make for him. (though it is slightly funny since Tenma kind of turns his son into a superman and Cage named his son superman)

Oh and astro only wheres a pants and shirt for part of the movie. There are many scenes where he is without one of both. Mainly for fight scenes. It makes sense there is no reason for Astroboy to not put cloth on the rest of the time.

I'm still not liking it, I haven't liked it since the first trailer.

The promo pictures that they released first had me very excited, the first teaser had me with mixed feelings, the trailer after I didn't like and I don't like this one either.

I'm a big Astro-Boy fan too, love the 80s show, enjoy the 00's and find the 60s show amusing. I even made an Astro Boy tribute on youtube.

Astro boy looks too human and his hair is not brown and its supposed to be metal not actual hair. Don't like the designs for Tenma or Elefun either or most humans. This feels like an american CGi movie with the Astro license copy and pasted. Which is odd since Astro is not a very well known franchise to todays kids anyway. I really thought this was going to be a "love note" (for lack of a better phrase) to Astro Boy, oh well. Counting all the bad things we've heard about Imagi shortly after TMNT came out with them firing people that were working in their movies doesn't give me any hope at all....

Oh well, I'll still see it we'll see how it goes....Hope Imagi's Gigantor and Gatchaman movies look better than this.

Also, for the record, he wore clothes in the original manga as well, at least when he was trying to fit in as a "normal kid". Of course, they'd often be ripped off during combat.

While he tries to wear clothes at times he is pretty much "naked" the whole time for one reason or another, he shouldn't be dressed for too long.

Also I finally nailed why I'm thinking it won't be Astro, they are making it into a superhero film which Astro isn't. For the 2002 show Sony put pressure in Japan to make the show more "superhero-y" which clearly shows.

In the first teaser trailer you see his hair moving.

Is it just me, or does the Army General guy look a lot like Anton Ego the critic from Ratatouille? :D

I'm not expecting it to be perfect but I will go see that movie. The fights at least look fun.

I personally thought the idea of Astro boy as a CG movie wouldn't work. But after looking at the trailer and some pictures of it I am quite amazed on how it looks. In my opinion for once a CG animated movie looks good for once.
