Cooking classes in St. Louis/St. Charles area?

Has anyone gone to the cooking classes that Dierbergs, Schnucks, and various other places offer?

What are they like?

Do you cook along with the 'chef' or 'instructor' or does he/she do all the cooking and you just watch?

Do you get to eat the creations that are cooked in class?

Is there any way to get a discount? I've noticed they run about $30-$40. I'm wanting to go with my mom sometime (sort of a mother daughter thing) around her birthday.

How long do they last? A few hours? Just an hour?
