Cooking a custom rom for the 6700

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of attempting to make a custom rom for cricket users. It'll be based on AKU 3.3, but I'm thinking I'll also package Opera, PHM regedit, and Totalcommander with it.

I need some help from you guys... Here's what I need:

1. Is the MMS program the ONLY thing we need from the Verizon extended rom? I intend to delete it completely and start from scratch.

2. Anyone know where in the registry the following is stored:

a. Default server settings for MMS

B. any ability to store default settings for WAP

C. settings in EPST for security and M. IP (basically, the settings we change in EPST)

I'm hoping to make a plug and play Rom for cricket. I've flashed 2 phones for frienRAB, and I KNOW they're going to call me every time they hard reset. I'd love to have a rom that I can install on their phone, so that if they hard reset, they don't have to do anything.

Anyone got some help for me on this project? Any other suggestions for programs I should package with it? Anything I'm forgetting that neeRAB to be included?

If you use RegEdit, you can search the registry pretty quickly for any settings. For example: Search for "wap.mycricket.com" and you can find where the wap proxy is stored, etc.

Before cooking a new ROM, I suggest creating instructions on how to use an existing ROM and re-configuring it for Cricket. I use this ROM Saridnours v.35pr6 ROM (Link Below) and install MMS on top of it. Right now, I run MMS v3.0.6.22 which is my original Verizon version, but newer versions of MMS exist (v.3.5.x.x) and would like to update my MMS. Otherwise, that ROM is totally excellent and the guy debugged lots of issues with it.

THat's pretty much what I plan on doing... The Rom I make won't be any different from the other 3.3 release, except that I will package some different software, and I'll implement a cab with the cricket settings.

One more question for those who are programming geniuses, is there a wayfor me to have a registry key autopopulate the username field by pulling the phone nuraber from a different location?

In other worRAB, I'd hard program the @mycricket.com with some command in front of it instructing it to populate everything before the @ with... the MIN, for example (even though that wouldn't work if you ported your nuraber to cricket, because the MIN is the original nuraber they assigned, prior to porting).

Well guys, here's the first step in the custom extrom...

I got really sick of having to edit the registry to install MMS, so I simply deleted most of the standard Extended rom. Now, when I hard reboot, I let the customization happen, and all it installs is the MMS program.

To overwrite yours:

1. Download the zip file and extract it somewhere. File can be found Here

2. Copy the two unlockers onto your phone.

3. Install the PPCgeeks unhider, then the APA unlocker onto your phone.

4. Soft reset.

5. Navigate to your extrom folder and delete everything in it (I'd back it up onto your storage card or computer first)

6. Overwrite with the contents of the Custom Rom folder from my zip.

7. Hard reset, and you should be good to go. Watch the progress of the verizon customization to make sure it only installs the MMS program.

From now on, you won't have to go through the steps of unlocking the extrom, installing the mms program, then relocking the extrom. you will still have to edit the registry to enable server editing, but I'll correct that in a future extrom update, once I figure out how to solve our other issues.

Edit: Added link to download. File too big to attach to message. Bah.

I think I just decided that what I'm going to do is not a custom rom, but a custom extended rom. It's an extra step for us to install, but it's nice in that you'll be able to update your AKU to any of the other custom roms, without affecting your cricket settings.

Given that fact, I don't know if I should put any programs on it, or just the cricket specific customization. It seems as though it'd be a bad thing to install Totalcommander with the ext.rom if the main rom you're using also installs the same program....

Thoughts?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

I DID IT!!!!

I now have a custom extended rom which loaRAB: MMS, Opera (with a custom cab for proxy settings), Magic Button, Total Commander and PHM Regedit.

Then I have a cab file, which I run after a hard reset, which does the following:

Updates the MMS Server info
Unlocks the MMS Server (even though it's not technically necessary)
Increases the Ring volume
Disables the hotkey to flight mode
Increases video framerate
Enables GPS settings
Disables Menu animation

Now, when I hard reset, the ONLY thing I have to do is run the custom cab, and put in the modem connection. Every other thing is done for me, including installation of most of the programs I use regularly.

I just solved my primary frustration with this phone (half an hour worth of work every hard reset).

Hope you planning to send this out, I want to take a look at it. I don't know about the "GPS Settings" and "Magic Button" you are talking about, two things I will hopefully learn.

You should be able to have it automatically do everything for you with out having to manually load the cab file.

Give me 30 mins I will upload a custom EXTENDED ROM that will automatically Make a Cricket 6700 with themes and all.
Just looking for the annoying cricket tone so that it will be seat as a ring tone lol :D
Keep in mind i have it this way for customers. You can change anything you want on it.

I've got mine all set up.. I don't have to do anything but enter my connection settings... wap and MMS settings are automatic... I just have to do the connection..

can someone show me how to do this for mine i have mine perfect the way i have it but i want to upgrade the rom back to the 3.5 but dont want to have to go through doing all of the software registration and stuff
