Cookie Jar and DiC To Merge

So now will American Greetings drop Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake cards? Maybe Hallmark could licenece with Cookie Jar for Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake rights and even revive the Get Along Gang.

Why would a merger between DiC and Cookie Jar mean that American Greetings would drop Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake? What lead you to that conclusion?

Interestingly, though, there was talk of a Get Along Gang revival, but that was over 2 years ago and I've since heard no follow up to it.

The first 5 episodes of Ripley's Believe It Or Not! (The 1999 CINAR series) is now streamed on JarooOfficial (You Tube).

And for those concerned about the KEWLopolis lineup, there will be the same shows again.

....Just KIDDING.

There will be 3 to 4, count em' 3 to 4 NEW SHOWS that will be hitting the lineup this fall. I can't tell you the names of the show, because that's secret with me and Cookie Jar Entertainment (and they know this site well, too).

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I don't mean it rudely at all, just curiously: why are you getting told this secret information in the first place?

1. No, American Greetings doesn't have the final word on DVD releases.

2. No, it will not. Once again, Arthur will not be leaving PBS Kids to go to KEWLopolis (and I don't see why that should even matter since you don't need cable or satellite to watch either block). Asking the same questions repeatedly isn't going to get you any different answers, you know.

Yes they do, actually. As I mentioned in earlier posts, S'More Entertainment (who released the complete series of The Littles, a DIC series) tried to release the complete series of The Get-Along Gang on DVD, but AG, who owns the characters, wouldn't approve the release, and as a result the planned DVD release was cancelled.

Don't believe me? Here's the report in question.

That part about the new shows on KEWLopolis isn't a secret. I just can't say the name of the shows. That's it. Infact, who didn't suspect that a big chunkful of the DiC shows were going to be ripped off the air when Cookie Jar renewed a three year deal with CBS?

Anyway, the full schedule should be coming out in late July/late August.

Just consider the source and move, my friend.

Wow,

I just got done looking at their catalog (according to Wikipedia) and if everything goes through, Cookie Jar has access to some INCREDIBLE titles and franchises.

A lot of those series would make incredible remakes.

I dont even know where to start, but if they would bring back only some of those series --- wow.

  • Ghostbusters would be a great series to bring back especially since the hyped game just came out and the new movie has been announced. JMS is unleashed from his Marvel exclusive deal. He might actually want to start writing for this series again.
  • Captain N has had rumors circulating around that a new series is in development. There were some questions asked around E3 with some encouraging comments. That could be another CBS line up winner.
Wow, I could make a huge list of promising series.

Having access to Inpsector Gaget, the Chipmunks, the Sonics, the Marios, Ultraforce, Dinosaucers, Heathcliff, Denis the Menis, C.O.P.S. (which aged EXTREMELY well), Karate Kid (with new movie looming), M.A.S.K. ....

You know what, if Cookie Jar only used three of the shows I mentioned from DICs library, I think they could dominate Saturday Mornings.

The only thing that would compete is the golden age of KidsWB>.

To further kill off the DiC brand, Cookie Jar Entertainment is rebranding KEWLopolis as Cookie Jar TV.

From KIDSCRREEN:

Cookie Jar TV launches

Cookie Jar's buyout of DIC Entertainment (and its Kewlopolis Saturday morning block on CBS) last year not only significantly expanded the broadcast service's library of programming; it also spurred a complete re-branding as Cookie Jar TV, says SVP of ad sales and television marketing Dave Danowski.

"DIC never promoted its name in the channel packaging; it was more about the brands," Danowski explains. "We want to make sure viewers know who we are because we're going to be in a lot of different places." Besides the CBS block, these places include digital broadcast networks and CJ TV's newly rebranded website.

Danowski says Cookie Jar will also have the unique advantage of programming and developing shows to suit its needs and complement existing shows in its three-hour block. He says the lineup will continue to skew slightly girl, but CJ TV hopes to achieve a more gender-neutral balance and maybe even add some original live-action fare to the mix to help age the audience up a bit.

CJ TV will also be embarking soon on a consumer awareness campaign across television, online and print. And Danowski says there's the possibility of using retail relationships to create in-store marketing for the newly branded channel, as well as tapping the company's extensive home entertainment library as a promotional conduit.

The kid-focused ad sales strategy will remain the same, according to Danowski, with toys and movie studios as top targets. He adds that the channel has a strong mom audience that tunes in with their kids, so he's eager to talk about opportunities for companies looking to reach that tag-along demographic.
