Why would the fact that I dislike maple syrup negate my ability to cook imaginatively? I am in no way "blind" to culinary juxtaposing at all thanks. Don't judge my ability on one factor please. I'm a bloody good cook thank you very much and I have to say that I have never used maple syrup in any meal in my life, and I haven't missed it.
I don't own a mandolin because I'm fucking poor and there are other things I need more. Decent ingredients for example, or a sofa.
