converting ppi (pixel per inch) to dpi (dots per inch)?

I have received a pdf file from client, which contains images of 150 ppi (pixel per inch), while my printer asked me for at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) images for printing.
Can anyone explain me, 150 ppi is equal to how many dpi ? and if 150 ppi is less than 300 dpi, how can I convert it
