Controversial Cartoons (Discussion)

Yeah, gotta love Porky Pig just opening up every barn door in the area.

I just got around to watching those two propaganda cartoons (Hitler's Children and De Fuhrer's Face) from Disney. Would I get hounded if I said the "De Fuhrer's Face" song in the beginning was quite catchy and hilarious? :goof: Especially the men that say the lines "Ja (yeah) we are the superman" and "Super Duper Super Man" and the way they move.

Although the one playing the tuba, watching the HQ version, he looked white from a far distance until he took off his helmet and it turns out to be a caricature of Hirohito.

Thought I should bump this thread up after going through the back pages. Who remerabers the original ending of this particular episode (which is usually cut off during syndication):

Oh I remerabered that Porky Pig one :lmao:

"S-s-son of a gun! You thought I was going to say son of a b*** didn't you?"

:lmao:

Well, you're never going to see Fred and Barney do this anymore: this or this

I don't think it's just banned cartoons that do the "Hold the onions" gag. It's just one of those things they say because onions are "pungent and make you cry" and maybe alot of people didn't like 'em so they just put it in. That's just my theory. :look: (I personally like onions, as long as they're cooked in some way. Raw? Forget about it.)

Not exactly a cartoon but I thought I'd share a quick Porky Pig "blooper". He's saying a curse word! *cue dramatic gasp!* ;)

*Jerry is telling Tom to cut various vegetables but when Tom was about to chop the onions, Jerry stops him.

*Someone holRAB out a sign that says "Hold the Onions".

In defense of Walt Disney, had he not made those WW2 propaganda toons for the U.S. Govevernment, his studio would've gone bankrupt and we would've never had anymore Disney classics, Disneyworld, or everything that made Disney Disney post-Barabi.

It's Blacklisted. Not Red Listed :) I think you might be referring to the Red Channels List.

Technically, anti-Nazi propaganda war films by Disney such as Hitler's Children, Der Furher's Face, and The Spirit of 43 (the last two starring Donald Duck) could have been mistaken as something that encouraged communism.

I don't think Walt Disney was blacklisted though. Some sites indicate that it was the animators/screenwriters that had worked for him and Disney himself was called to testify or something like that.

Check out the book Forbidden Animation: Censored Cartoons and Blacklisted Animators . There's an e-book version found here if you're interested. The one that talks about Disney is on pg. 155.

Thanks for the info. I found that out recently that it was released on DVD :)

Do you know which section it would more likely be on if I go to Suncoast/Best Buy?

Actually the Disney cartoon "Der Fuhrers Face" was released recently on dvd. I believe the name of the dvd was Disney: The War Years and focused on material Disney produced for the war effort. You might still be able to find it at places like Best Buy or Suncoast.
And regarding Der Fuhrers Face the whole incident is revealed to be a nightmare that Donald is having. Upon waking he see's a shadowy figure with it's arm raised in an apparant Nazi salute, jumps up and starts to say: "Heil Hit..." and realizes it's his miniature Statue of Liberty which he grabs, kisses and exclaims: "OH BOY! Am I glad to be a citizen of the United States of America!"

Yeah, I've seen the WW2/Nazi ones. Notably the Donald Duck one and "Hitler's Children". Imagine if they aired it in today's times (unless if you're watching it in History Class), the FCC would have a field day.

I've seen Coal Black too.

I like the "Peace on Earth" cartoons. It's hilarious that they can convince us that only furry little forest creatures can survive a nuclear holocaust.

And I've seen a some of those WW2 prop films both pro-Nazi and anti-Nazi. Of course the proNazi films are all in German so I dont know what theyre saying but you know what theyre talking about. :look:

I had to ask but after watching certain cartoons, there's one thing that still boggles my mind.

Does anyone get the onion joke reference? Every time there's something to do with onions, someone would say "Hold the onions"
