Controvercial film tastes

Am I the only one who doesn't like It's a Wonderful Life and The Shawshank Redemption, who likes Terminator 3 and Alien Vs Predator, who thinks that Jurassic Park II: The Lost World was better than the first Jurassic Park film, who liked Titanic and Spielberg's War of the WorlRAB and hated Spiderman 3, and thinks that the 2 greatest films ever made are Naked Lunch and Mulholland Drive? :D

Everyone's taste in movies could be seen as strange at times, hell I'd take an (admittedly bad) early 80's slasher movie over Casablanca or Gone with the wind anyday.

But their is a pattern, you have a soft spot for the overblown or the over melodramatic (Titanic,JP2,T3,A vs P) and a great number of people were letdown with Spidey 3.
Did you prefer Batman Forever or Batman & Robin over the first 2.

As for Naked Lunch/Mulholland Dr,it's difficult not to like these type of movie's because surreal or strange work like this is rarely ever made in Hollywood,I bet you loved Jacob's Ladder too.

I hated Batman and Robin but I loved Batman Forever.
I'd put them in order

Batman Forever 8/10
Batman 7/10
Batman Returns 4/10
Batman and Robin 1/10

I didn't rate Jacob's ladder. I didn't like Donnie Darko either.

There probably is a pattern somewhere, but I can't see it myself!

I think your taste is shaped by what you saw when you were growing up. I love lots of arthouse stuff and world cinema but have a soft spot for the films of my childhood (Wierd Science, Red Dawn etc) that people who have never seen them and watch them now would think are ****.

I hated all the usual hollywood classics Its a wonderful life ,Casablanca or Gone with the wind growing up

but I revisited these old film styles an they are my fav now
my old style was the usual action an slasher type horrors ...

I thought the following movies were tripe and no one can understand that I don't think they are "Brilliant"

Dirty Dancing
The Matrix
All the Star Wars movies
Top Gun
Austin Powers
Pretty Woman
Saturday Night Fever

I like a lot of the old classics, but for me Casablanca is very over-rated. I think it's whole reputation is based on the, admittedly well-written, final scene. But apart from that it's not great, it's slow to start and I thought the flashback to Paris was cheesy and wooden, even by the more theatrical standarRAB of the era.

Not liking The Shawshank Redemption is definately controverstial though ThinBoy:D

Probably not, but you have to accept that you're seeing it through very different eyes from when it was first released. The style may seem corny but it's a very sharp, intelligent film which tackles themes that are still topical today. When I saw the video of people queuing outside Northern Rock recently, what film did I think of?

Casablanca is a very good film. I only saw it 5 years ago & always thought I'd hate it but was pleasantly suprised.

My favourite part is different to most people I've talked to, though. It's when they start singing La Marseillaise to drown out the Germans. That moved me more than the doomed romance.

I also think Manhunter is far better than the Anthony Hopkins Hannibal Lector movies.
Brian Cox will always be Hannibal for me, can't stand the silly accent Hopkins puts on - not scary at all imo.

Saying FACT at the end of a sentence does not make it true....FACT

I enjoyed Temple of Doom more than the others too, the little kid is hilarious. Don't agree with ROTJ, though. Can't stand the bloody Ewoks!

No.. but it can make it ever so slighly funnier.... FACT.Actually, I was deadly serious.

Look... this is my serious face ----------->

Really.

I did first see it quite a long time ago!

I actually agree on the first point, but NOT on the second!
Well, OK, maybe Raiders of the Lost Ark was better overall, but the first 20 minutes or so of Temple of Doom was fantastic! - up until the actual adventure starting - all the table-turning stuff and the escape from the plane. Brilliant.
The third one was the least good IMO.

Personally, i think 'The Exorcist' is about as chilling as a week old kitten. It's a really overrated film and in my eyes it doesn't deserve the "classic" status that it has been given.

I also prefer Die Hard 2 to Die Hard (only just though), regardless of what Bruce Willis thinks to the two middle films.

Imo Temple of Doom is the worst of the three Indy's. I just didn't like the kiddy-ness of it when compared to the other two films.

On the flip side, i do actually prefer Return of the Jedi to Empire Strikes Back. Like a comedian once said: "after seeing Jar Jar Binks, the Ewoks looked like f*cking Shaft!", lol.

28 Weeks Later is better than 28 Days Later.

I'm sure i've got more controversial tastes, but i can't think of any more at the moment.
