Narrator: During World War 2 large numbers of people and families were fleeing from Europe to other countries as refugees.
(Father comes inside)
Father: We have to leave tomorrow morning, it’s too dangerous to stay here anymore.
Mother: But why?
Father: Our city is the target of attacks and if we don’t flee immediately then they will kill us
Son: But …but I don’t want to leave!
Father: We have to leave tonight and then have to hide somewhere in the morning.
Narrator: Towards the end of the 20th century, countries like Switzerland were the target of massive verbal and judicial attacks concerning its refugee politics during World War II. Jews and other minorities like the Roma also know as gypsies were systematically deported from any country occupied by the Nazis and about 6 million people were killed.
Father: (Waiting) Do you have your bags packed?
Mother: Yes but where are we going?
Father: I’m not sure...but further away from here
Son: But I don’t want to leave!
Father: Stop arguing and hurry up.
Son: What am I supposed to do? We're leaving our home.
Father: Yes, I know. I'm leaving my home as well, remember. But if we keep talking like this we'll lose our minds before we even get outside.
Narrator: The family keeps walking for hours until…
Son: MAN, can we hide somewhere..... I can hear people being captured!
Father: We must continue.
Son: But.... (He’s interrupted)
Father: But nothing, we are going.
Son: going where? We don’t even know where we are
Mother: he’s right we have left all our things and we have really no place to go and we have also been walking for hours.
Narrator: Though many families were torn about leaving home, they were left with no choice. Many families would never have seen their homes again. They also may never again have seen the ones they loved who were left behind.
