I have acid reflux after meals, especially supper if I eat one extra bite. I get heartburn and nauseau and bile backs up into my mouth. This can sometimes last for days or as long as a week. I have needed intravenous Nexium in the past to relieve it. I take two 40 mg Nexium a day. I can't eat more than jello, toast and and try seltzer to cause me to burp and get some relief.

Any body else have this?

I have no gallbladder but I think I have developed acid reflux - I had to go to the doctors last night it was so bad. My stomach tightened up and I belched all night. She had to put me on zantac twice a day. The burps get stuck in my stomach or in the middle of my chest and can be very painful. This happens after I eat. I also get heartburn and nausea. You can even hear my stomach making these noises.

Ask your doctor if you can try meteclopramide (reglan)

It helps the stomach to rmpty more quickly, and it tightens the oesophegal sphincter, so stuff is much less likely to back up.

Brioschi Effervescent Antacid is great, you mix a spoonful in a glass of cold water and drink it while its fizzing - you do a massive burp and feel instantly better

Does the Zantac help? I am taking 150 mg of Zantac OTC twice a day. Sometimes it works great and at other times I seem to get heartburn regardless of the Zantac or following a healthy diet, which I am currently being very good at.

When I become brave enough, I may forego the Zantac altogether and see what happens with the reflux. Will it still come and go randomly? Mine seems to be cyclical. I have three decent days of minimal reflux and then one day when I have what I call the "attack" because it is strong and can last for hours.

I know I can't have caffeine or alcohol, and I am also cutting back on carbs, but there are times when I eat a piece of chicken and vegetables and experience heartburn.

Hi Sue You:

Your situation sounRAB awful! I have experienced heartburn for up to three or four hours at a stretch, typically after dinner, but nothing like yours that lasts for hours and hours and even days. It sounRAB like you already are on a very strict diet and regular medication. I am trying to avoid dairy, a lot of carbs, coffee and other irritants but I don't know what I would do on a diet of jello and toast.

Have you considered surgery (fundoplication) where the surgeon creates a "lip" to substitute or compensate for the weakened LES?

Hope you feel better soon and I'll be interested to read if anyone has other suggestions to you.

I got the prescription Zantac 150 don't know if there is a difference in strength. Anyway I a take two pills a day. I had alot of burping so it has helped with that but I still get an attack and it doesn't matter what I eat so you described exactly what has happened to me. All this did was help with the burps - I am still getting the tightness in my stomach and goes around my back.

Its ok to take a dose of antacid (Tums, Mylanta etc) as well as your Zantac, when yiu get symptoms.

Take your Zantac regularly twice a day, and keep some antacid on hand so you can take a dose when you feel symptoms comming on.

LiquiRAB work better, but tablets are easier to carry around - if you use tablets, suck them until they disolve, dont just give thme a couple of chomps and swallow them

Yes, it is, I have seen it on a well known online drugstore. I am sure local pharmacies would stock it, or atleast be able to order it in for you - if not, you can buy it easily online

jonnstar thanks for the tip of sucking on the tab until it dissolves. I have never thought of doing that. I am still adjusting to the new me - sans a gall bladder and post acute pancreatitis. When I was in the hospital (january), they pushed nexium everyday to prevent heartburn and etc. The main thing was to rest the pancreas - not excite it any more than necessary. The gastro doc put me on Kapidex 60 mg- love it! The glitch is, the cost. I had to choose between a Rx for kapidex or tires for the auto. The auto drives nicely and state inspection accomplished. I am trying out omeprazole 20 mg - on day two and not really loving it like the kapidex. The nurse told me to give it two weeks to see if I adjust to it. Otherwise, I may bite the bullet and do the Rx for kapidex in a couple weeks. I'm learning a lot from these boarRAB -
