Considering switching from Verizon to AT and T For Iphone-How fast in Pittsburgh?

I was going to stick with Verizon and got the Eris, but the battery life sucked so I took the phone back. Not really feeling the Blackberry. I found out I also get a corporate discount if I get the Iphone. I am considering switching to AT and T.

I am pretty technically proficient when it comes to computers, but I am dumb when it comes to cell phones.

I just mainly want to find out how fast the AT and T network in Pittsburgh is compared to Verizon's. Verizon is the major player here in Western, PA
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Verizon Wireless has the largest 3G network.

AT&T claims to have a faster 3G network, but the experts say that the difference is not, by any means, noticeable.

In your part of PA, AT&T does have 3G...however, it is VERY limited. It is limited to your area and about 20 miles in any direction from you...and that is it. What good is a network you can't use? Also, AT&T has limited to spotty coverage throughout all of PA...so not only will your internet speeds be insufficient in some areas, you may not be able to place calls either. Sounds like paradise to me.

Also, keep in mind that your discount will be extremely small (from 5-10%). It may not be worth it to switch. Also, check out vzw.com/discounts and they most likely have a similar discount available...don't go based off of what your [job] company says.

Finally, the battery life on the Eris is actually longer than the iPhone's.

Eris: Talk time: 214 min
Standby: 372 hours

iPhone: Talk time: 192 min
Standby: 300 hours

Another thing the iPhone doesn't have: Interchangeable batteries. Buy two Eris batteries and always have a back-up!

Does this below mean anything to you?

Really thank you for your reply. I wish I could give you "reputation" points for your post.
You sealed the deal. I am going to stay with Verizon. I will wait for the Omnia II-I think that phone will meet my needs.

Actually we get a 25% discount from Verizon and the AT and T discount is 22%. It is significant.

I really wanted to like the Eris and it was a good phone-very snappy. However, I didn't like the battery life. It was "dumb" for a smart phone-you constantly had to be doing things to ensure the battery wasn't draining even when you were not using it. I would lose nearly an entire battery overnight. Omnia II allegedly can get two days on a charge-I would be happy with a full day and night.
