I'm 14 years old, and I have no clue what I want to be when I'm older. A bunch of people have told me to be a lawyer because I "would be good at it."

I'm just trying to see cons and pros of everything.

Don't listen to that first guy. It's 99% of the lawyers that gives the other 1% a bad name.

I also wanted to be an attorney at one time. The cons are that it takes a long time to go to school to be a lawyer. If you are giving this some serious thought, make sure you are doing your best in school. You have to have some pretty good grades to get accepted to a good law school, like William & Mary, here in Virginia is one of the best in the country. I checked and you have to have a high B average to even get in, which for me was no problem because I was a straight A student for the most part. Being a good lawyer requires being a good speaker and it isn't as easy as people think. There is a tremendous amount of research that goes into legal cases. In other words it is hard work.

The up side of being an attorney is that you make good money, you will most likely never be at a loss for work. Also, my mom used to work at the courthouse and she said lawyers used to come in and search the property records and they picked up properties fairly cheap by doing this, they would find property of deceased people with no heirs and buy it, find properties with real estate taxes due and buy that, so they acquired wealth by getting these properties.

The one thing that stopped me from becoming an attorney was a thought I had in my mind, what if I have to represent a murderer and I knew he was guilty, could I do that with good conscience and my answer was no. But there are other types of law too, you don't have to do criminal law. You could do Real Estate law, or Civil law or Family law. You could also become a Public Defender or a Prosecutor.

So it is a good choice for a career.
