Connecting to Peap Network

Hi, Im trying to connect to my work network which uses mschapv2 peap. I have manually added a network called "Enterprise" and called it 802.11x with peap and put in my identity and password. Then when I look at the list of wifi networks, I see an "Enterprise" that is "Secured with WEP" and I see my "Enterprise" that is "Not in range". I can confirm that this network is running mschapv2 peap authentication because that's how i connect through my laptop.

Anybody had this problem, or have some suggestions?
Also, im on an incredible, so i cant root yet which means i can't manually change settings.

Thanks,
-Ryan

Hi ryan00davis, and welcome to the AC Forum.

Does Android even support PEAP? It doesn't seem to on 1.6, and the Google enhancement request that is due to add Enterprise WiFi support is still "new" - http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1386

However, I'm surprised your phone is saying it's out of range rather than trying to connect (and just not get past phase 2 authentication with PEAP). Can you not add your network by pressing on the network is has actually detected?

Anyway, I think you're out of luck, as I don't think Android (at least not on standard official ROMs) supports PEAP or any other flavour of EAP.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the response.

According to my software information, the incredible is running firmware "2.1-update1"

It does have at least some peap support as it is a menu option, clearly not running completely. strangely my old windows mobile phone didn't even support mschapv2 (which i think is a microsoft protocol), but i have coworkers with iphones who I believe have it working.

When I try to connect to the "Enterprise" that does show up, it asks for a WEP password, not the username and password that you need for the peap. Not sure why it doesn't associate the "Enterprise" it sees with the "Enterprise" i put in the settings for. Just in case someone is thinking I may have a capitalization issue, I do understand that SSIDs are case sensitive.

Hi.

Looks like it's been a long time but I have exactly the same problem. I can't connect to my university's wireless.

Did you figure it out?

Yeah, I figured it out, but you have to root the phone and edit your wifi config files to make it work. I cant remember exactly how it was done (I no longer work at the place where I was trying to get it to connect), but if you confirm you're already rooted I'll look it up again let you know.
