doesnt congress have better things to do then to attack toyota for their recalls? like maybe the economy, healthcare, the war among others. Think part of it is toyota isnt bogged down by unions and gm is and now is pretty much owned by the gov? chrysler is having recalls why not investigate them too?

Attacking Toyota, no. Asking them to explain how they could suddenly be having such mechanical problems with their supposedly superior product, I applaud Congress. For years, I have thought Toyota was overrated, especially since I bought a brand new Toyota Corona on a Saturday in 1969. It had 4 miles on the odometer and 3 miles later, the speedometer cable broke. During the next 3 years of ownership, the car went through 3 engines and 7 transmissions.
One day after I had it serviced at Hightower Toyota in La Crescenta, California and made sure they inspected and certified the transmission, I had to have it towed back, as the tranny broke the next day.
I forced the owner to buy the car from me. It was 3 years old and worth $300 (I still owed $700). I made him pay the entire amount owed, or see me in court when I sued him.
To this day, every time I think of the old 'Get your hands on a Toyota' commercial, I finish it with 'Can't afford to let go'.
It's long past time, for Toyota to admit they have been BSing the American public for decades.
