confused and torn between: BlackBerry Bold 9780 vs. Apple iPhone4 ??? HELP :)

Hello!

I am getting a new phone as my current one just broke, however, I cannot decide which phone to get!!!

I am with Bell Mobility by the way.

Here are the features I want:
-good calendar/PDA functions (easy to use & high option planner)
-some multitasking ability (ex. not having to stop writing an email or exiting something just to read an incoming text or answer a phone call)
-music player
-camera
-fairly durable

I would be using my phone for:
-heavy texting
-i would be relying on my phone for scheduling of work/meetings/etc so i need something that's easy to use
-email
-web surfing (facebook, googling things, school website, etc.)

I am torn between these two phones. I realize that the iPhone is more a pleasure phone while the blackberry is more a business phone. I love the iPhone's large screen but I'm afraid I will easily crack or scratch it as I do sometimes drop my phone. I like the idea of Blackberry's bbm as it would be very convenient to talk with friends as its like 'new MSN'... I have heard that the iPhones camera is good quality and it shoots 720p video, which is a plus. I also like how I could add my playlists from iTunes onto the iPhone. I'm not too sure about how customizable either the iPhone or Blackberry are (all I know is that Androids have amazing capability to customize your phone)....

This is driving me crazy! I can't decide!! Will someone help me choose (and tell me why you prefer one over the other?) ?? I would really appreciate your input!

Thank you so much for your time and Happy Holidays!!

sounds like you should be looking at the BB. If you get the iphone 4 you just get an otterbox case to protect it in case of a drop.

If you're going to web browse it's going to be much easier on the iPhone. All of the stuff you mentioned can be done on the iPhone but the 9780 is much better for messaging in all types..

In all honesty, it sounds like you want a Blackberry. They are capable enough of web browsing for a simply google search or visit to a website, and since you intend to spend a lot of time messaging, the BB is far more capable in that regard. BBs are also very solid and can take a beating (I would know, trust me), so if you are thinking of doing that...go with the BB.

I hear what the OP is saying. I'm a current BB user on AT&T using a Bold 9000. The iPhone4 is a cool phone but I really think moving up to the BB Torch may be my play. I definitely need a useful select, copy and paste function and ability to switch between English and East Asian character set on the fly. BB does that but application memory space is a concern going forward as I am trying to limit the number of devices I carry around. On my BB, the menu has the option of switching input language when I am in a text box. I kind of like that feature rather than switching the whole phone over to Japanese and then back again when I'm finished as it would I would have to do on the iPhone. On the other hand, the iPhone 4 doesn't appear to be as robust in text handling as I would like but it has that all important app memory.

At first you would think that with all the things he mentioned that the best option would be to get a BB. In my opinion though, iPhone 4 can do all these plus more. Without a doubt I'd say pick the iPhone4

The iPhone can do all of the above mentioned, but you will never beat a BlackBerry for email. Email is what the BlackBerries were originally designed for and, in my mind, take on the task with ease.

I will never understand how people can hesitate between these two phones given a well-defined list of needs and desires. These two phones couldn't be any more different. It's like saying you're ready for a new vehicule and can't decide between a Ford F150 and a Toyota Prius. Both are first rate devices but they have totally different strenghts and weaknesses.

I have both and I was an avid iPhone user until just the other day.. I had created a calendar event and I went to invite someone to it and I couldn't see the option to do that with the iPhone. So it went on the auction block and I use my BB9780 now and I already had a iPod touch so that's now my 'toy'. Though I do miss the iPhones' video camera and the hipstamatic app.. but making money through work comes first to me

Hey! Thanks everyone for the input!

I ended up going with the blackberry bold and I am very happy with my choice!
I love everything about it and so far have not had any problems or things I don't like!

Once again, thanks for your opinions!
