Confirm: BB on Prepaid OK if we don't need data?

Hello all. I'm hearing/reading mixed messages so I'm trying to clarify:

Can one use a Blackberry (Pearl 8100) with a Prepaid SIM card if you don't care about data?

Situation:
I'm going to upgrade my unlocked 8100 to an 8120, leaving me with a spare 8100.

My wife is interested in having a blackberry for the PIM functions, (mainly ease of synching with Outlook Calendar, Contacts, etc.) but doesn't need or want internet access or email on the phone. She is also a VERY light user of minutes (less than 60 minutes/month average), so paying for a "family" shared minutes plan isn't really that cost effective, since we're paying like $30 extra a month for her to barely use the phone.

Can we use a prepaid SIM in this situation? (Knowing that the BIS won't function, but synching contacts, calendar, and tasks through the BB DM.)

Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. I recently gave my wife my 8120 since she wanted a better phone, but also doesn't care about e-mail or internet function and it works just fine. Be nice if there were a work-around for BBM w/o a data plan though. It'd save me a ton in text charges.

Yes you can. I just gave my old 8100 to my daughter who has a pre pay account. Popped the Sim card in and it works just fine.It only costs $10 to go to a TMO store and get a prepaid sim card.

* If you have the 8120 with wifi, then you can browse the web for free while using a router.*
