Condition or Side Effect?

Hi all,

New here. I am hoping someone can relate or offer some insight, or even direct me to a board that might be able to help if not here.

For the past 4 weeks I've had the most uncomfortable feelings... I am unable to 'warm up' internally. I feel like I have freezing cold blood running through my body. My face, arms, hanRAB, legs & feet feel tingly and nurab'ish' 24/7. This isn't a come-and-go thing. It's constant. I've gained 15lbs in about 4 weeks but it's all in the miRABection. I feel so bloated and my hanRAB and feet are swelling easily. It feels as if I ate way too much salt. I am so uncomfortable and even though looking at my fingers you can't tell, they feel huge to me! Know what I'm talking about?

My hematologist thought my iron must have dropped again, but the bloodwork came back okay. And my last CBC was normal 2 weeks ago. I had an ANA test come back positive at 1:80 but I'm not sure if that is of any significance. The hematologist said it would be up to 4 months before I could see a Rheumatologist and even then she isn't sure they'll find anything or run any further tests. Only other problem (aside from anxiety and depression) is constipation from oral iron supplementation. I have Klonopin for anxiety as needed, but these tingly/cold/nurabish feelings are 24/7, even if I take a Klonopin to stop worrying about it. So I don't think it's anxiety related.

Something in itself or a possible medication side effect?

I've been on Lexapro for years, but 7 months ago it was increased to 20mg due to an episode of extreme depression and anxiety. I was also put on Wellbutrin XL at the time along with Klonopin. It was a nightmare period in my life that hit out of nowhere, to say the least. Needless to say, the mood swings reared their ugly head in full force and I was switching between crying jags and hypomania. That's when my psychiatrist decided to add Lamictal. He thinks the hypomania might have been medication induced from the Lexapro.

I've been on the Lamictal in addition to the Lexapro and WB for appx. 4 months. I've been at 150mg for around 6 weeks now, so I'd think it's stabilized. But I've been having these feelings for the past 4 weeks.

Thanks for reading and I'd appreciate any input!

You have many of the most classic signs of hypothyroidism... Feeling cold, weight gain, swelling, etc. You need TSH and free T4 tests - both, not just TSH. I'm unsure whether the specific drugs you name can induce hypothyroidism, but some drugs can do that. Even if your MD tells you those drugs cannot cause hypoT, you still should have the tests, because of your symptoms fit the mold so well.

Thank you for your response! I had the thyroid tests you mention about 7 months ago, but that was prior to the medications stabilizing and prior to me beginning Lamictal. I have my annual with my OBGYN today and I will bring it up.
