They now live without enough room to construct a proper self-sufficient underground shelter and rely on government promises of protection 'at any cost'. Cost: eventual complete loss of civil rights and freedom.

Eh, you can't have liberty without life!! That's why life comes first.
Then I suggest you move to North Korea, they have plenty of security there. Also you won't need to worry about pesky things such as freedoms and Liberties.
I think the Ben Franklin quote sums it up best
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
I am always amazed that some Americans are so willing to give up the freedom that has been earned by the blood of their forefathers so easily. I would imagine the founding fathers would be spinning in their respective graves.

Life without liberty is not worth living. We can have both civil liberties and secuity; it is not an either or situation. The government does not need to spy on us to find terroists.
Some just don't have faith in their fellow countrymen to help maintain that freedom. Do you think for one moment that another plane will ever get hyjacked in the country? The spirit of flight 93 shows that when push come to shove people are willing to fight for their freedoms. I thought, as a conservative, you knew this. That is what is sometimes backwarRAB about conservatives they want government out of thier lives, unless on moral issues, but want some big old father figure and military to protect them.

It seems to me that not just faith is lacking but the presence of fear is ever among us in this country. Do you relize what that means? bin Laden won. Osama bin Laden is a terrorist.
What is his profeshen? Terror.
What is terror? Fear.
If they have us so scared that we have to loose our civil liberties, then bin Laden won. Let me put a quote up.
