There is another post on there about this. However, it is about four pages long and only about 7 of the posts are of any use. I am doing this to make it easier on people to get this phone fully flashed. I didn't come up with this solution. I simply am making it easier for those who search.

Make sure you have:

1) Drivers for the phone
2) QPST
3) Samsung PST (NOT Lite)
4) The BI29 Bin file and U940 DLL

Steps:

1) Is to make sure you have the BI29 Version installed on your phone. The settings WILL NOT work on any other version. I do it by opening the Samsung PST and going to the info section and read from phone.

2) If there is any other version. Put your phone in Emergency mode by turning off the phone and pressing 9+power. Then hook the phone up to your system. Go to the software section and select emergency and download the BI29 bin on the phone. I have never had a phone that lost any data by doing this which I think is great.

3) Once this is complete, the rest is easy. Go back to this post: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1515564&page=3 and start with the QPST settings FIRST. Do not read from the phone, just click on those tabs mentioned and then write to phone. Then open the Samsung PST back up and write those values.

Krjavi was the one who figured out the Bin, that is in the above mentioned post. Gatts007 put up nice screenshots for your reference, and Jramos402 gave some great input in that thread on getting this phone fully flashed.

I still follow these instructions and have never had a problem getting this phone flashed. As for the files, do a google search. They are really easy to find.

That is VERY true. I didn't mention that is what I do because it may confuse some other merabers. I personally have that saved and it takes about five minutes to fully flash this phone.

thanks! on a semi related note, ive never been able to fully flash the alias, even when i use the correct settings that work iwth my other samsungs. could the firmware version be why? if so what is the firmware version youve found works best for u740?
thx

You may be correct. I have three of these laying around and I have had the same problem. They just don't stick.

I got lucky with the Glyde and saw a post by Krjavi. He was a big contributor to my epiphony. Maybe he would know.

I will look more into it tonight when I have more time.
