...budgeting finances? I've heard some horror stories about people not making enough to live off of. Currently we don't make much at all about 1000 a month and we have two children. My husband joined the navy and will be leaving for boot camp in a few months. I have the base pay charts and everything, but is it really as bad as it seems, or is that more so if you don't know how to save. I'm really asking if you can live comfortably and not paycheck to paycheck. Thank You!!!

You are probably just seeing the base pay.

A married sailor will also get food allowance(I'm not sure of the amount, probably several hundred dollars a month) and a housing allowance(probably around $900 or more per month). The housing allowance goes up or down depending on the duty station.

You might not be able to splurge very much on low-rank pay but you will be able to get by.

I don't know about the navy but in the army your housing is paid for and a monthly stipend for food. The base pay is yours to do anything and pay taxes. It's pretty nice. Consider living on base and save as much money as you can. You'll have more then enough money.
