Alright, i live in a pretty bad neigborhood, a few nights ago me and my friend were walking outside, probably about 11 at night, and got held up by gunpoint. Im thinking about carrying a weapon, a gun is a little, tooooo deadly, i just want some form of self protection, so is it legal to have a concealed knife? or worst case scenario, exposed?

Unless you plan to get a gun permit my advice is to stay inside at that hour and away from the 'gang-bangers.' If you were to be found with a concealed knife with a blade length over say...4" you may be charged. It is not worth it. Besides...I suspect you are too bright than to bring a knife to a gun fight, smiling.

The best (or at least easiest) source you can check is your state's website, ideally if you have something like the Department of Public Safety or similar. They should have all the info you need on what you can and can't carry.

For the most part, you need a license to carry a gun, but not a knife. The only thing to be sure of is how big your knife can be. In Texas, for example, you just can carry any blade over 5 inches.

Hope that helps.

Concealed (without a permit) no (except in Vermont). Open carry, depends on which state you live in. This goes for both guns and knives.

If you were held at gunpoint... what is a knife going to do for you? I say get a gun, learn to use it, and hope you never have to use it on anything other than paper targets at the range.
