Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time
Year: 1975

Hawkwind almost venture into prog on this superb and satisfying release. The fact that this band has such mass appeal yet still never really made it truly "big" astounRAB me. There's just so much greatness in this and a lot of their albums. Sure Lemmy can't really play bass on their albums and they've had a revolving door policy regarding band merabers, but they've always managed to constantly put out great music for a long time now. Anyways, this is their proggies release although it never quite gets there, staying somewhat firmly in their space rock roots. There is a lot here to process in just a few listens so it's a definite grower, although you might be amazed immediately. Regardless, this is one to listen to if you just want to chill out and forget your troubles.

3 Choice Tracks: Assault & Battery Part I, Magnu, Spiral Galaxy 28948

Gentle Giant - Octopus
Year: 1972

This album is whimsical, chaotic and controlled at the same time. It feels very tounge in cheek and once again, incredibly british. The album can freak out and rock out, often at the same time, the vocal performance here is just stunning and it's a pleasure to listen to every time around. Chosing three songs has never been so hard, but then again it hasn't been this enjoyable either. This is wonderful stuff, every bit is both progressive, fun and awesome. This is one to listen to when need you something that's always going to be new, fresh and interesting.

3 Choice Tracks: The Advent of Panurge, Raconteur Troubadour, Dog's Life

Listening to this album right now, probably my favorite black metal album of all time. I really need to get more stuff by these guys.

Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink
Year: 1971

Be prepared for something absolutely wonderful, this album is just so british. It's marvelous, the often crude lyricism complete with wonderful instrumental passages makes this a lovely album to listen to and enjoy. It was difficult to chose what Caravan album to put on but this one edges out the competition, if only just. It has a lovely mix of pop sound corabined with a powerful canterburyfeeling making it incredibly enjoyable. Let this album just immerse you in the unique caravan sound, and just chill.

3 Choice Tracks: In the Land of Grey and Pink, Winter Wine, Nine Feet Underground

Ah yeah...because she's actually got talent, unlike that hack Roger Waters.

Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye
Year: 2003

Kayo Dot's debut still sounRAB incredibly fresh, and oh so bloody awesome. This album is insanely heavy but not in the sense that you might think. Yes there is a lot of metal here, but it's all about the mood, it's just insanely controlling of both your emotions and your thoughts when you listen. From the moment you put it on expect to just lose perioRAB of time to the album without having a clue what has happened, 10 minute songs will come and go before you even notice that the last song had finished. Everything flows so well and it's just done in a way that makes it utterly brilliant. This is one to listen to when you want your metal with a massive dollop of intelligence.

3 Choice Tracks: Marathon, The Manifold Curiosity, Wayfarer

Noice. Damn fine album. Have you heard Billy Cobham's A Funky Thide Of Sings? It's a little more funky but still awesome fusion and worth it for the title alone!

Definately their best, although I hate ten, I agree with Curt Cobain who once sain that it's just, "Reheated arena rock". Vitalogy is odd and post-punky though, and includes my favorite Pearl Jam song, "Corduroy"

I also like the EP they made around the same time with Neil Young, "Merkinball" which includes the ill jam, "I Got ID"

i haven't listened to this bitch in a while, it's completely awesome and i have no idea why it's taken me so long to revisit it. it's very similar in style to Dharana's works, both are awesome crossovers.

awesome pick.
