I'm trying to get my home videos on my computer so I can edit them in Windows Movie Maker as a present for someone. So, I have a DVD drive for my computer, and a VCR/DVD player that will convert home videos onto a DVD. However, when I put it in my computer, the videos automatically are divided into several separate segments in a .VOB format which I can't use. I tried to convert it to .avi or .wmv, but that seems to make it act strange and it's still unusable in Windows Movie Maker. What should I do?
Thanks in advance.

It does that for every movie. I think it's to prevent you from ripping DVDs. But uhm... I really don't think there's a way around it. I've downloaded movies that were .VOB, and it's hard to watch movies like that. Only thing I can suggest is to start recording on a device that can plug straight into the computer. No idea for your already recorded videos. I'm sorry.
