Computer Painting in Gray Scale?

If your printing it out it is definitely your printer settings. Go to Start, Printer and devices, click on your printer click on customize your printer then click on printer settings and go to paper details and click it from gray scale to color.
 
I was was using the old fashion computer paint system, when I noticed that when I was using a dark purple it came out gray. At that point I didn't think anything of it, but when I was using pink, it came out as a light gray. I don't know how this happen, since this was the first time in a long time that I actually wanted to paint something in there. Is there a reason behind all of this?
