Computer had new software installed (sims 2 university) and froze after an error. I was impatient so I turned the computer off (it's a Dell Latitude D410 laptop) and when I turned it back on it is unable to boot XP and just has a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left.
I tried to get into Safe Mode but it didn't work.
I don't have the Windows CD as it is a secondhand laptop which had XP pre installed and a cd is probably worth more than the computer.
I either want to fix the problem or completely erase the hard drive.
Ok, so I am screwed, I thought so...is there any way I can remove everything on the computer at this point to start over?
